How to create a ZIP file online in your browser
ZIP files organize several items into one package for downloading or sharing. FileTools builds the archive locally in your browser, which works well for attachments, assignments, images, and small project files.
Steps
- Open the ZIP creator and choose multiple files.
- Check filenames and the file count before processing.
- Create and download the ZIP, then open it once to confirm every file is present.
Will ZIP always make files smaller?
Text, CSV, and uncompressed data often shrink noticeably. JPG, MP4, PDF, and other already compressed formats may change very little. ZIP is still useful because it combines many files into one package.
When image size is the main concern, compress the images first and then add the processed versions to the ZIP.
How to make an archive easy to use
Use short readable filenames, avoid duplicates, and keep file extensions. Name the final ZIP with a project name and date when it will be shared with others.
The local tool does not upload files to FileTools, but you are still responsible for storing and sending the downloaded archive securely.
At a glance
Best for: Bundling attachments, assignments, project assets, or groups of related files for one download.
Input: Multiple files of any common type
Output: One standard ZIP archive
Before downloading
- Remove duplicate and temporary files before creating the archive.
- Use readable filenames that explain what each item contains.
- Open the finished ZIP and verify the expected file count.
Why did the ZIP barely reduce the total size?
JPG, MP4, PDF, DOCX, and many other formats are already compressed. ZIP may not shrink them much, but it still provides the practical benefit of packaging several files into one organized download.
Does this tool add a password to the ZIP?
No. The current browser tool creates a standard unencrypted ZIP. Do not use it as protection for confidential material; choose a trusted encryption workflow when a password or strong encryption is required.
