File to Base64
Encode any file as a Base64 data URL.
How it works
- Choose or drop your files
- Select “Encode file” and let your browser process it
- Review the result and download it to your device
Why use FileTools for file to base64?
File to Base64 converts binary bytes into text and includes a data URL prefix when the browser knows the media type. This is encoding for transport, not compression or encryption.
Best suited for
Small test assets, development debugging, email or API experiments, and embedding tiny files where a data URL is accepted.
Input and output
Input: Any file that fits comfortably in available browser memory.
Output: Base64 text, usually as a data URL with a MIME type prefix.
Known limitation
Base64 is roughly one-third larger than the binary source and becomes inconvenient for large files.
Practical tips
- Avoid embedding large images or documents directly in HTML or JSON payloads.
- Do not treat Base64 as a security measure; anyone with the text can decode it.
